What You Need to Know Before You Buy Wicker Furniture
It is easy to see why people choose wicker furniture. Wicker is durable but lightweight. Only if it is meant for the outdoors, either go for those without upholstery or else, ones that are weather resistant. The wicker itself must also be treated for the outdoors. Still, patio wicker sets are not as durable as aluminum, wrought iron or teak wood.
Nonetheless, wicker ages gracefully. And the great thing is that, wicker reminds people to relax, just what most people need. As well, wickers made tables are cheaper. As for colors, you get so much flexibility that you can even paint them to match the color scheme of your designs.

Wicker goes back to the ancient Egyptian time where wicker is commonly found in the daily life of the Egyptian. However, it weren’t in a form of furniture but tools.
As well as the many types of furniture available today like tables, rocking chairs, ottomans and loveseats, wicker itself also comes from many different types such as vines, bamboo, willow and many kinds of reeds.
Not surprisingly, you can also find variety in styles and finishes. Prefer simple designs and then intend to jazz it up with a number of accessories or particular cushions? No problem, or else, choose more complex designs. When it comes to cushions, it is a good idea to get ones that fit into your scheme of designs. Perhaps more solid colors for your cushions as they can better withstand fading that is bound to happen if the patio wicker sets are exposed to the sun rays. Then again, floral patterns work better against dirt, as dirt will show up less obviously on a busy background.
You can find two types of wicker. One is the loom woven which are made from rattan, bamboo or cane. Loom woven is the other type that is made from hand woven polyethylene, resin or fiber glass. Outdoor wicker furniture such as the tables is coated with resin emulsion to protect it. Synthetics are framed with aluminum.
Wicker is pliable when wet so that the strands can be woven together tightly. Once it is dry, the furniture is sealed, sanded, stained and lacquered in colors such as sage, bronze and pewter.
Rattan ones are very strong and will neither splinter nor break. Rattan grows to a few hundred feet in tropical forests. Rattan poles are used as couch frames or made into spiraling designs for arm rests and even for the backs of furniture.
Give it a little care and your wicker furniture can last for several years. Do clean it and coat it with a protectant regularly. When vacuuming, go with the weave. Should you spill on the furniture, quickly clean it up as unsealed wicker absorbs the spill very quickly. It is possible to hose down the furniture but avoid using too much pressure.
